Conversational Curse?

R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

Image via Wikipedia

Dr Al Mohler cogently articulates  what is at stake in his masterful response to Brian McClarens “to weak for the task” attempt to defend Rob Bell. The contrast is clear according to Mohlers polemic. This isn’t a third tier gray area. Somebody stands under the Pauline anathema for preaching a “counterfeit gospel”. Finally!

Mohlers summary:

“We are talking about two rival understandings of the Gospel here — two very different understandings of theology, Gospel, Bible, doctrine, and the totality of the Christian faith. Both sides in this controversy understand what is at stake.”

Rob Bell Interview

Rob Bell

Image by Keegan Jones via Flickr

Listen to Rob Bell as he is hit with hard probing questions, stumbles to make a point but unable to do so, responds to  a straight forward question by contradicting the writings in his new book , articulates ambiguity while trying to appear to be certain, implies Truth is actually un-true while absolutes are absolutely unknowable, eternity is important but clear answers are simply reduced to a confusing conversation without clarity of conclusion.

Bell hides behind being a  pastor as why has no real answers all the while assuring us that  grace gives people room to work through “atrocities of life!” on their own but “clearly” wants us to  trust him  because he “absolutely” believes that  love wins. Even though he can’t actually tell us from what and is clearly unable and unwilling to articulate anything akin to Paul’s glorious gospel.

Rob nuances his way through the reality that he is bankrupt of concrete answers to real life issues but wants to assure us that he  is a man who can ask lots of questions.

I think I  have heard his voice from somewhere in the ancient past. Yes, it has the same  hissing whisper that  loudly  asked the first undermining question, “HATH GOD SAID?”

Thats it, Bell is really Beel-zebub!

Will Theology Kill My Faith?

Insightful clip regarding the study  of theology. Can it be harmful to ones spiritual walk with Christ? Yes, if performed outside the context of relational and worshipful pursuit. However, since scripture implores us to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, spiritual growth development can only take place in heart of a desire to know Christ more deeply through the discipline of study. My professor in bible college said it like this,”Truth correctly understood will always lead to Worship.”

Which reminds me to say, thank You brother Carroll Thompson. You not only shaped the spiritual affections of my life, but you were absolutely right!
