These two metaphors demonstrate the vast contrast between what people prefer over that which Christ is actually building. The video also illustrates how many ministers are tempted to re-define the DNA of a church over that which Christ himself has pre-defined in his word!
Contrary to popular opinion, 1 Corinthians 3 is not speaking to individual believers about building their lives upon the foundation of Christ. Rather, a simple read of the context will plainly show that Paul is specifically speaking to church planters and other 5 fold ministers. In doing so, he issues one of the most stern warnings in scripture to those involved with building the local church:
“…we are God’s fellow workers; you are…God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds….If any man builds on this foundation using…wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work…If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.”
