A California mega-church will be renamed by the Catholic diocese that purchased the ministry’s property after it filed for bankruptcy.
Church leaders tell The Orange County Register the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange plans to announce the Crystal Cathedral’s new name during an ordination service on Saturday. The diocese hints that the new title will have to do with life and the teachings and works of Jesus.
The Crystal Cathedral filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year and sold its property to the diocese for almost $60 million. The church’s founding family left the ministry earlier this year, and Sheila Schuller Coleman, the former senior pastor, left the Garden Grove mega-church and founded her own church, Hope Center of Christ. That congregation is still in search of a permanent home, but Coleman reportedly plans to find a location close to the former Crystal Cathedral.
